Triple bill of sci-fi comedy adventures starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. In 'Back to the Future' (1985) teenager Marty McFly (Fox) fears that he won't amount to anything in life and confesses as much to his girlfriend Jennifer (Claudia Wells). His father George (Crispin Glover) is bullied at work by his high school tormentor Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson) while his mother Lorraine (Lea Thompson) is an alcoholic. When his friend Emmet 'Doc' Brown (Lloyd), an eccentric scientist, reveals that he has invented his own time machine in the form of a plutonium-powered modified DeLorean car, Marty accidentally travels back in time 30 years. After realising that he does not have enough fuel to return to 1985, he inadvertently disrupts the early stages of his parents' relationship which places his entire existence in jeopardy. In 'Back to the Future Part II' (1989) Marty and Doc Brown must travel 30 years into the future to prevent Marty's son from going to jail. Meanwhile, when Biff Tannen steals the DeLorean so that he can return to the 1950s and make his younger self rich, he creates an alternate timeline in which Marty's father has been murdered... Finally, in 'Back to the Future Part III' (1990), Marty travels back in time to 1885 to rescue Doc Brown from a fatal showdown with Biff Tannen's great-grandfather. However, the situation is complicated when Doc Brown falls in love with schoolteacher Clara Clayton (Mary Steenburgen).
