But how are these changes to be understood - especially with regard to the reunification?§This book is concerned with urban development and planning processes in Berlin. A collection of key essays and critical academic contributions covers the exiting and eventful period since the fall of the wall and gives scholars as well as students, journalists and all interested visitors a good overview of political and professional discussions on issues such as the East-West divide, inner city development, housing markets, gentrification and urban social movements. The book breaks ground in two dimensions: first, by providing for the first time an insight into the very controversial Berlin debates after unification for non-German speakers, and, second, by highlighting the massive transformations of the city in the 20th and 21st century.
