Because his sketch process is integral to the drawings Ryan McGinness employs in his works, he is an avid sketcherand archivist. Sketchbook Selections 2000-2012 is a curated collection of pages out of McGinness' sketchbooks from the past decade. Presented in non-chronological order, these selections enable the reader to witness this dynamic artist working through aesthetic and semantic concerns by combining ideas, words, and pictures in this un-selfconscious medium. The monochromatic printing and extra-loose design of the book extend the purpose and intent of these quickly rendered sketches and notes, standing in marked contrast to the vividly colored, perfectly executed paintings, prints and sculptures that are hallmarks of McGinness' studio output.
