Most renowned for his arresting sculpture "Falling Leaves", Menashe Kadishman is a highly instinctive and at the same time conceptual painter and sculptor whose works are exhibited at some of the world's most important museums. Born on a kibbutz, Kadishman was a shepherd for many years. This experience informs much of his work, especially his brightly hued sheep's heads and sheep imagery. Kadishman's unique ability to weave nature and art to tell stories of humanity make him among the most lyrical of living artists. Here, his career is traced from his artistic studies and early exhibitions to his recent works. A variety of critics draw attention to Kadishman's themes, which embrace history, warfare, the Bible and the Holocaust, while others place him within the context of other artists at work today.
