Missouri became a state on August 10, 1821, and is now home to over 6 million people. The state's rich history has created ample opportunities for ghosts to linger in its many haunted places.
The state had the third most Civil War battles in the Union, behind only Tennessee and Virginia. Twenty-nine battles raged within the state's borders; two had unusually high casualty numbers.
